lawndogEmailed him yesterday and this is the reply I got back:

Hello there,

Thank you for your interest in my 2001 Plymouth Prowler.(Vin #
1P3EW65G21V701799).
http://2001-plymouth-prowler.biz.ly/2001PlymouthProwler.htm

The price I want to obtain for it is $10,900 US ,the car is like new,
completely working, perfect running condition, with no hidden damages or
accidents,it has always been garage kept, low miles. You will receive the car
with all the necessary papers(clear title, bill of sale, warranty documents,
user's manual,insurance etc).
I am requesting a $3,900 refundable deposit at the begining of the shipping
and the balance to be paid after delivery and inspection. If you are not 100%
content with the car you will ship it back on my expense to get your deposit
back.I am sure this will not happen, because it is a state of the art
vehicle and you will have no reason not to be content with it.
This is a large purchase and I would like to use a third party for this
transaction as I want a smooth and safe transaction. We will use eBay as
third party.
First you will pay the downpayment to eBay and the reminder you can send it
directly to me or trough eBay also.
Please note that eBay will hold your deposit of $3,900 until you will
confirm that you received the car and you transfered the title into your
name.
If you agree with these terms, please send me your full name, home and
shipping address,eBay ID so I can register the transaction with eBay asap.

...waiting for your fast answer
Best Regards,Ronald Johnson

lawndogCan someone check on this Vin #
1P3EW65G21V701799 to see who the real owner is?
lawndogJust received this email from him (Scam or No Scam?):

Hi again,
The car is located in Dallas,TX.
The only problem is that i work in the army and right now i`m at duty. The
car is my garage and i don`t have nobody home.My parents live in other
state.
The only way we can close this transaction is : I will deliver the car to
you , directly to your home address. You will have a 15 days inspection
period. In this time you must decide if you want to keep or not the car but
i`m 100 % sure that you will love the car.
The car have only 8000 miles,no damages, never involved in accident,is like
new..I`m selling the car because i`m one step to lose my restaurant and i
need this money urgently.

If you agree with this please email me your full name and address where you
want the car to be shipped.Once i will have those informations i will
register the transaction with ebay and in very short time they will contact
you with all payment details and all the instructions for the deposit.

Best Regards,Ronald

ed monahanHe is in the Army but is going to lose his restaraunt? He is going to give you all the papers, including insurance?
Ask him the name of his restaurant and location. Odd his name just happens to be Johnson.

SuperDaveIf you get an address for the owner I'll be happy to check it out. He might not be home but I'm sure he has neighbors that can vouch for him...
kat hunterI never got a response from the inquiry that I sent thru ebay.
lawndogLatest email from him:

At soon you will transfer the deposit i can be able to fly home and meet you
or deliver the car to you.
Thanks

scooter1Come on folks, this is the typical scam that feeds off the greediness of people trying to get the impossible bargin. If you're willing to toss away the deposit (or even payment in full) to some scumbag via Western Union, go for it (NOT!) I would hope by now that just about everyone who uses the internet would recognize this scam. If anyone wants you to pay anything (via Western Union) before inspection....SCAM. Any kind payment in advance to delivery (via Western Union)....SCAM.
Any kind of payment at all via Western Union...SCAM. etc, etc, etc. Western Union has warnings on their web site stating "DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE YOU DON'T KNOW!!!!"
Also, any time the seller says that you are to submit the money to "e-bay"......SCAM. E-bay does not handle any type of money transfers for any transactions.

SuperDaveI believe that everyone here knows that it is a scam, they are just playing along to see where it will go. I'm fairly certain that nobody here will actually send this chump a penny...

That said, Ebay does offer escrow services, you can read about them here:

Ebay Escrow Services

Regardless, I'm certain that this guy isn't going to work with an approved Ebay escrow service, he's looking for a quick buck. Personally, I wish him all the luck and extended jail sentences he has coming to him...

TUIB at least can blame the lack of timely reporting on that flea bag mutt.

Toys is on his own!!!

scooter1Regarding the Escrow service available for E-Bay purchases, I believe that E-Bay doesn't offer the service, but that it is "E-Bay approved". From what I've heard, these scammers attach a link to their e-mail that will usually be something that has some sort of "ebay.com" suffix which is homemade and leads to a fake e-bay site where your money is lost forever. It's sad that so many people are getting ripped off from these losers. Be careful out there....

Well said Dave.

It would be nice to play along and try to get enough info to take these guys off the street. Will it happen, probably not. But if everyone just ignores them they will continue to find people to to rip off.

KRU-ZNNThis is some good reading on the scammers

bjprowlerHey Lawndog....

How about telling this guy that you're willing to pay his asking price "up front" and in full in order to not lose out on getting the car, but that you've got a little problem..... You won the lottery, but your wife won't let you buy the Prowler until she gets $2,000 for a "boob job".... She owns half of the ticket and won't let you cash it in until she gets her $2,000....Maybe if he could send you $2,000 to accomplish that, you can get your wife to agree, she'll "sign off", you'll cash in your ticket and send him his asking price plus refund his two grand within 7 days...

lawndogbjprowler,

Here you go I just emailed this guy as follows, will keep posted if I get a response:

Ronald,
